You don’t need to be surprised anymore! Beauty Contests happen now and then in Nepal. But come on let’s explore this interesting theme of Beauty Contest, “Miss Teen Green”. Sounds cool, isn’t it? Their focus is no less cool, “Hariyo Ban Nepal ko Dhan”. So here we have one more beauty contest in the country, “Miss Teen Green” which was held for the first time at ragya Bhawan, Kamaladi on January 14, 2011. And winning the title among 26 contestants, Ria Acharya is the first ever Miss Teen Green Nepal 2011.
Organized by Galaxy Modeling Agency and Spring Nepal Pvt Ltd, the pageant was officially started with Anuradha Koirala, the chief guest, lighting the lamp, followed by Miss Republica Teen Nepal, Kreety Tamang Lama walking the ramp. The decisive panel included veteran actor, Bhuvan KC, media personality Dinesh DC, Ace choreographer Prashant Tamrakar, Miss Nepal 2010 first runner up, Sahana Bajracharya, media personality, Puspa Joshi, Film Director, Narayan Puri and Rajya Shree Shrestha.
Ria Acharya was successful in impressing the judges with her straight answer to “Why aren’t there many women entrepreneurs in Nepal?” And with the title comes a new role for Acharya, she has to promote local conservation leadership by actively taking part in supporting environmental programs. Najma Mathema and Rashmita Ranjitkar were the the first and second runners up respectively for the Miss Teen Green.
While when it comes to media, everything looks perfect. Into every beauty contests, we come up with same lines; the participants were fairly selected, justly evaluated and the cliché one “not just the outer beauty was considered, inner strength was focused more”. But how important are these beauty contests? Do they really provide a “good platform to boost morals and help create independent women” as Anuradha Koirala believes?
What I believe is beauty contests have been more of a business now, mainly for the mushrooming modelling agencies in the country. What do you think? Your comment will be appreciated!
