Although some media agencies are reporting deaths of nine or more, National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) in Nepal has set the official toll to six people. The government officials, however, reported death tolls of 5 people to CNN IBN till yesterday. In addition more than 50 injuries and 168 house damages have been reported due to the earthquake of magnitude 6.9 (previously 6.8 and later revised to that figure) on Richter scale that had its epicenter in the border of Taplejung district of Nepal and state of Sikkim in India. Three people died in Kathmandu when the compound wall of British Embassy in Nepal collapsed following the earthquake. The deaths included Sajan Shrestha, 36, a security guard with DANIDA; his daughter (who were riding a scooter) and Bir Bahadur Majhi, 19 (Passing side by). Similarly, Santosh Pariyar, 20 and his seven-year-old nephew Bimal Pariyar died in Dharan when their cottage was hit by the wall of adjoining house.

Meanwhile the government has announced relief packages for the bereaved families of September 18 earthquake victims. The families will be immediately provided Rs 25,000 by the district-level natural disaster rescue committees. In addition, in next three days or so the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue Fund will be providing Rs 100,000 each to the families of the earthquake victims.
