The 40-year-old was beaten and burnt to death by Bikram Mahato and some other relatives. Culprit Mahato had suspicions of Dhegani Mahato to be practising witchcraft after his son-in-law fell sick the night before the incident. He also had a false impression of his grandson dying some years ago after drowning in the river was because of the witch’s practice.

Nepal Police have arrested Bikram Mahato and other eight relatives in connection with the incident. Dhegani Mahato lost her husband seven years ago because of cancer and was living with her son and daughter of 10 years and 8 years respectively.
